Key People |
We keep the core team small to keep overhead costs low, but we maintain a network of talented people who have worked with us over the years. They're the programmers, linguists, editors, and materials developers who helped build LinguaTech. We stay in touch, and can call upon a wide variety of skills as needed to handle the projects we undertake.
Special Thanks to
- Programmers: Eric, Clair, Swen, Lance, Joe, Daniel, and Ryan
- Linguists: Daryl, Dave, Floyd, Joseph, Arle, and Michael
- Editors: Gene, Nicole, and Yoko
- Office Managers: Carrie, Leon, Scott, and David
- Materials Developers: too many to mention!

Language Specialties |
Our strongest languages are French, Japanese, Spanish, Russian, and of course ESL/EFL. We've worked in many others, and we can tap the vast range of language expertise in the BYU community as needed for special projects. (For example, if you happen to need some consulting help involving Hungarian, Albanian, or Tahitian, we've got people who can help!)

Founding Partners |
John Snideman (CEO Emeritus)
Retired now, John was the businessman who tried to ensure that our ideas made sense financially, and weren't just academic research projects. We owe him a lot....
Alan K. Melby, Ph.D. (VP of R&D, Acting CEO)
Ph.D., Brigham Young University, Computational Linguistics
M.A., Brigham Young University, Linguistics
B.S., Brigham Young University, Mathematics
Alan is the dreamer and visionary; our tilter at windmills. He's also our rhino, who charges ahead when he's convinced an idea has merit - somehow always finding a way through the obstacles. He speaks fluent French, understands Human and Machine translation theory like nobody else, yet he's also a technical guy: a competent programmer in his own right, and one of the few people on the planet who really understands everything in the SGML and XML specs....
Chris Larsen (VP, CTO)
M.A., Brigham Young University, Linguistics
B.S., Brigham Young University, Computer Science
Chris was the software guy. And the hardware guy. And the web guy. And the tech writer. And the editor. And the network admin. He's written software for DOS, Windows, Macs, Unix, and the Web. He speaks Japanese, loves data compression and designing language courseware, and usually ended up implementing Alan's ideas after putting up a good-natured argument....
Still available for consulting work through LinguaTech, he now works full time at Blue Coat Systems, where he designs software that automatically categorizes web pages in more than 15 languages. If you're looking for a high-quality web filter to protect your kids from pornography and other "bad stuff" on the web (that happens to be free for home use!), check out Blue Coat's K9 Web Filter.
